On Saturday, the 12th of October, Harwich and Dovercourt took the short away trip to face Kelvedon and Feering Rugby Club. With harsh conditions, this was set to be a tight game. The visitors scored first with Harwich’s young number 8, Flynn Garwood, crashing over for his first of two tries of the day, converted by Sam Parker. With low scoring and physical hits, Harwich was up at the half.
Kelvedon started the second half stronger. With holes in the Harwich & Dovercourt defence, Kelvedon scored their only try of the game, making it 16-13 to Kelvedon. With excellent scrummaging efforts from the front row of Wood, Clark, and Sewell, Harwich & Dovercourt managed to get front foot ball, progressing into H&D’s number 8, Flynn Garwood, crashing over for his second of the day in the final minutes of the game. This gave Harwich the 20-16 win, extending their winning streak to four games.
Two man of the match awards this week went to fullback Sam Parker for his 100% success rate off the tee and debutant Frankie “Twinkle Toes” Dyer, both playing excellently. Harwich & Doevcrourt now look forward to hosting league leaders and currently unbeaten Stanford Le Hope at home this coming weekend.
