the result meaning that Harwich 1st team sit 3rd in the league

On Saturday Harwich & Dovercourt RUFC 1st XV took to the field for their final fixture of September with the goal of finishing with an impressive record of 3 wins from 4 games.

H&D started well with spending the majority of the first 15 minutes of the game in the opposition 22 but were yet to reap their rewards. Approaching 20 minutes into the game, Cameron Clark showed why he was given the captain duties for the fixture by showing intuition to run a great supporting line and crossed the whitewash for Harwich’s first score (converted by Samuel Parker). Score 7-0

This was the kickstart they needed as the home side then went on to score a following 2 tries through prolific outside back Andrew Sterry and yet again captain Cameron Clark! (1 of 2 tries converted by Samuel Parker). 19-0

However, just before half time Harwich displayed a lapse in concentration with Writtle number 8 and nominated man of the match made a line break. Winger Nemani Ledua made chase stopping the opposition player just before the try line, however, the referee deemed the tackle high seeing Ledua head to the Sin Bin. Now with 14 men on the field Harwich soaked up the pressure but were unable to hold out until half time seeing Writtle dot down for a converted try. Score at half time 19-7.

After some positive reflection on the first half, Harwich knew what needed to be done to see the game through. The home side started the 2nd half with the same fight that started the first. They continued their success of the first half seeing Andrew Sterry scoring 1 try and Zak Keeley scoring 2 try’s, all unanswered (2 from 3 converted by Samuel Parker).

The game finished 38-7 to Harwich and Dovercourt RUFC after a brilliant home performance. The result meaning that Harwich 1st team sit 3rd in the league with their view set firmly on top of the league! Many thanks to the travelling Writtle RUFC!
