On Saturday July 23rd, Harwich & Dovercourt RUFC hosted the 2022 Chassis-Cab DAF Rugby 7s. After last year’s success, the Rugby Sevens tournament returned for its second year. It was a great day of Rugby Sevens, with seven teams entering the tournament. The tournament schedule consisted of one pool. Made up of H&D Hawks 7s, Bit Wavy 7s, Kelvedon & Feering RFC, OAB’s 7s, Cavaliers 7s, Stallions 7s and Sappers 7s.

All teams displayed some great rugby during the pool stages and most importantly played their rugby in great spirit. After a tough pool stage, with each side playing six fixtures in hot conditions. Harwich & Dovercourt Hawks 7s finished fifth in the pool, missing out on the finals.

The Shield final was then played between Cavaliers and Bit Wavy, who finished third and fourth in the pool. Whilst Sappers and OAB’s finished first and second to setup a great contest in the Plate Final.

The Shield final was played first with Bit Wavy taking an 19-0 first half lead. The Cavaliers come out fighting during the second half, playing some great Rugby Sevens. However, Bit Wavy 7s held out to win the Shield Final 26 – 19.

It was then time for the pinnacle of the day. The Plate Final, played between last year’s finalists OABs and Sappers. Both teams played hard and fast, displaying some great rugby sevens. Entertaining the crowd throughout the final and playing the game in great spirit. The Sapper 7s went on to win the final and Tournament Shield, presented by Chassis Cab Managing Director, Robert Baxter.
